BACK TO WAGERING GUIDE

How to place a football wager - pointspread

Making a bet at a sportsbook is an easy process and ticket writers are more than willing to assist you. For the convenience of both the house and player, the best way to make a wager is to use the numbers assigned to each team by the official Nevada Sports Schedule. For the purposes of this discussion and for a point of reference, let's assume you wish to place a bet on the following game, appearing on the tote board as followed;

3 Washington

4 Dallas     -3

Difficulty Level: Easy     Time Required: 2 minutes

Here's How:

  1. The team's assigned number is the number to the left of each team. In our above example, Washington is #3 and Dallas is #4.

  2. This game will be referred to as game "3/4" with Washington being team #3 and Dallas being team #4.

  3. The number to the right of the team is the odds/pointspread for that team, with the number always being listed beside the favorite. In our above example, Dallas is a -3 point favorite over Washington.

  4. The home team is always listed on the bottom unless a neutral site is noted. In our above example, Dallas is the home team.

  5. If a player decides to bet on Dallas they would go to the window and declare "I would like $11 to win $10 on team #4, Dallas less the three".

  6. If a player decides to bet on Washington they can go to the window and declare "I would like $11 to win $10 on team #3, Washington plus the three"..

  7. If Dallas wins by 4 or more, all those who bet on Dallas would win $10.00 for every $11.00 they bet, thus collecting $21.00 for every $11.00 wagered.

  8. If Dallas wins by 2 or less, or if Washington wins, all those who bet on Washington would win $10.00 for every $11.00 they bet, thus collecting $21.00 for every $11.00 wagered.

  9. If the game is settled with Dallas winning by 3 points exactly, the game is a "push" and all bets are returned.
